dirty laps

ive had abit of a problem with my boards being able to just barely see the laps on the deck. after searching the archive, mostly people were saying its eaither dirt or cheap glass. im confident in the quality of glass (less confident as i type this) but was wondering if there were any ways to ensure the glass was clean, or to clean the glass to hide those laps!

i also read a bit about ‘cut lapping’ which i did not find what that was, but i get that its some technique where the laps arent as long onto the deck?

any suggestions?

ps-looking for an east coast blank manufacturer as i got an order for a 9’6 and my eps blocks ive been cuttin outta is only 8ft long. shipping from the west side is absurd. a horzontal stringer maybe? ha!

Sometimes if you leave too much resin from your laminating job it’ll show up in your finished product. All you want to do is wet out the cloth and wrap the rails without leaving extra resin. Your finished laminating job should have the texture of the cloth only transparent. The cut lap is from taping off the surfboard where you want the cloth to wrap around the rail and finish on either the deck or the bottom. You then wait for the resin to gel and just before the resin cures you trim along the line you made with the tape. You might still see a little bit of the lap but that’s what pinstripes are for.
