Ok this is weird…I had just finishing glossing a board using suncure resin. It’s humid as hell were I live, so I put in a little catalyst to let the gloss coat kick inside where the air was still. I would then set board in the sun for a few minutes. I’ve done this before and it worked well. Today I glossed a board with a deck painted blue. Water based paint on foam. The gloss resin had started to kick and I pulled the masking tape from the rails and placed the board in the sun. The phone rang and the board remained in the sun for about thirty minutes. When I went to get the board it had about 12 bubbles on the deck. They reminded me of the add with Joel Tudor. The one where he had surfed San O and had red bumps all over his body. Well the board had bubbles on the deck. The board was hot. This board would make a great solar collector. Thinking I had screwed the pooch, I put the “Joel Tudor” board back indoors and out of the sun. I threw a wet beach towel over the deck and sat down and drank a beer. Now here what is weird, when the board had cooled down the bubbles where gone! No shit gone…I couldn’t even find them under shaping lights. This can’t be good, but I would like to know what’s happening. Any thoughts?
Sounds like the board got hot, some air in the foam expanded, and maybe the board wasn’t quite cured. Sounds kind weird for it not to have cured in thirty minutes using suncure. But after you cooled the board, the air didn’t need as much space. so the bubbles disappeared. Sounds about right if the glass hadn’t cured totally. After it cures - the hot board would just become slightly (very slightly) pressurized. That’s my take. Don’t get to wigged - just watch that area for delam in the future. it is evident that the glassing gods have smiled upon you as a favorite son for your many good deeds, no doubt. seek no further explanation, but do keep that towel handy, just in case i need to borrow it sometime.>>> Ok this is weird…I had just finishing glossing a board using suncure > resin.
