I have a gently used longboard which is starting to show some discoloration (shade of coffee stain) around the bottom side laminate/decal. There are no visible dings or cracks in the area and I cannot figure out what could be causing the discoloration. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I should note that the bottom has a single 10 oz volan layer.
Well, if it’s not water, then the other culprit might be heat.
The decal is darker than the rest of the glass, so it’ll mebbe absorb a bit more heat, heat up the foam, causing that to break down a little faster and show up as a pale brown relative to the rest of the board. Typically, a longboard is gonna be left in the sun bottom up, so that’s where it’s gonna get the most sunburn.
Try taking a sheet or a couple of large towels to the beach with you and laying that over the board. Should keep it from getting a lot worse anyways. Or, of course, a reflective board bag.
Hope that’s of use
doc…
Thanks for the insight.
