Here,s a big wheel…might help …or not
Divinycell is a PVC foam, available in various densities, and thicknesses. OK for epoxy, or poly. Google the name, I’m sure they must have a website. It’s used in aircraft, boats, and some folks have cored composit surfboards with it.
MMM Laxy Wheel,
To find the answer of the Divinity cell riddle you must read the composite Bible (Bert’s Vacuum forming and sandwich construction) thread.
This opens many doors.
Go to the (Resources) and look in the (Discussion Threads) under (vacuum forming and sandwich construction).
Or use the advanced search function.
Divinycell=Surftech
Good luck,
Ian
When you check the archives Tommo, you’ll see some negative comments about Divinycell. A new Divinycell formulation was introduced this year and it is far superior to the old one. The new stuff has great elongation and compressive strenght and small cell size for minimal resin absorbtion - cosmetically its crap but you can’t have everything.
I expect someone who uses it in the UK will give you some info but in the meantime here is a link to a site I had bookmarked.

Airex gives more hit for UK and I think this past post will give a bit of info on the different properties

also when looking at corecell got directed to www3.gurit.com which had this as local representatives

Thanks very helpful…
Who has used it for stringers and how is the feedback? How does it compare in weight and strength?
Thanks
I’m not aware of Divinycell being used as a stringer. However high density PVC has been used as a stringer material by several major mfgrs. Weaker than wood, stronger than light weight surfboard foam. Good cosmetic appearance. Easy tooling, no grain to deal with.
thanks for the reply…maybe pvc and some warp…
Hi Bill -
In some rather obscure posts, Ben Sparks (aka Benny1, builder of Peanut Board and others) demonstrated D-Cell stringers.
Hey Tommo,
Try the name corecell, its is the same stuff, still made by the DIAB group, but released under a different name for different markets around the world. U culd use airex too.
Moonfish, I think you’re thinking of Klegecell. Core-cell is a different material to Divinycell and it’s made by a different company. Core-cell is Linear SAN (styreneacrylonitrile) foam. Divinycell is PVC. Divinycell used to be cross linked which made it a bit brittle, the new stuff is partially cross linked (whatever that means) and is quite flexible but hard to crush. Core-cell is a good choice as well. the 3mm stuff is actually a byproduct of the process to make the thicker sheets so sometimes the 3mm sheet may have holes in them.
I’ve had blanks with d-cell stringers. The feel pretty much like a stringerless blank, all other things being equal. The good thing is that it shapes right down with the foam… no plane needed. It’s also light, paintable (I use different shades of glazing and make it look like wood grain), and keeps that line down the middle that I believe serves as a sort of subliminal reference point. It might help hold in a center box or plugs a bit better than no stringer at all.
I’m seeing d-cell inserts for plugs now, too…

Nice guy, very helpful
Hey pinhead, woops… your right, screwed that up a bit huh.
Corecell is the stuff im using, klegecell aka divinnycell was the stuff i was gonna get, but didnt.
Yeah it seems to have good flex, i managed to roll up a 2400mm sheet and slide it in the back seat of my car!
(didnt really wanna put it on my roof rails, that may have been bad me thinks)
