I decided to bump this to a new thread simply so it would be easier for people to find it. But if anyone wants to see how I stumbled upon this, you can certainly read the original thread.
Everyone that has ever tried to find any info about the fast action / on the fly shoe depth control modification knows that there is very little to nothing about how to do this for the DIYer / Do it Yourselfer. Take a look at what I came up with and let me know what you think. I made a series of very in depth and thourough videos on how to do the modification yourself and almost all parts were purchased at Lowes.
I do believe we have changed the game for all the shapers that mod their own planers Folks.
And did I mention this will work for almost any of the more desirable planers, like the Bosch, Makitas, and both older and newer Hitatchis?
I could have been a huge D!CK and kept this to myself, but one thing I have learned from a lot of you on this forum, is that I could always find a solution or trick or a better more effeicent way to do something pretty much whenever I needed it. So this is my way to give back and contribute to all your valuable info through the years!!
Now all the vides in total will run close to an hour long, but I am very in depth with them.
This is truly amazing! I am gonna try that on mine as soon as possible! Thanks a lot for sharing, that will change the game of garage shaping for sure!
Can you please upload video part 5 were you put it all togheter? and using it? and maybe even show us how you re position the handle…
one last thing, can you give a link to each part on ebay or something? cause lowes dosent ship international and i dont know were to find the parts at my country and there names in hebrew…
Part 5 is uploading right now and should be ready to view in a few minutes. As far as listing all the parts from ebay, that may take quite a while. I wouldnt even know where to start with that. I am not an avid Ebay user. I like Amazon more. When I want something I would rather buy it out right rather than wait for up to 6 days for an auction to end.
Just wanted to pass this on quickly for those who have trouble finding a set screw collar. I have been buying these for years from McMaster/Carr for my glassblowing pipes & rods. They are online also: www.mcmaster.com/#collars/=s80mfk
Haha. I just turned 40 and I am still on a budget. I think the Clark foam guys may be a lil irritated once they see this because no one has really found a easy way to do this up til now. As you probably could tell from the videos I was a bit overwhelming with excitement when I was explaining how to do everything. Anyways I am glad I can help everyone. I am definitely patting myself on the back with this and it has been a great feeling having shapers that I have looked up to for a while tell me Thank You for helping out all of the do it yourself modifiers.
Thanks again for posting all of this. I have watched the videos twice and taken notes at the same time. I live 50 minutes from the nearest Lowes and I want to make sure I get everything in one trip. The one bit of info I must have overlooked is the part number or specs on the collar/set screw I need to order from mcmaster.com… If you have that info, it would be greatly appreciated.
