Long story short: I screwed up my first hotcoat (bottom), so I sanded and rehotcoated. The new hotcoat looks good–so should I sand it down, or can I just pretend that it’s a gloss coat, sand at higher grits, compound, then polish? I plan on gloss coating the deck (it’s a 9’0"), but I’d like to save some weight here. I know that it won’t be as shiny as a true gloss, but it’s a personal board, so I don’t care. Thanks! Ed
I used to ride all my boards hot coated. Could never see waiting the extra day to finish.
how far down should i sand if i justwant to re-glosscoat
sand with 100 and make sure you get all the shiney spots out.if this is your personal board and your not trying to impress anyone, to hell with it and just wax it up and surf.
the hotcoat (if its a thick one or a ‘2nd hot hoat’) can be polished up nicely. I would start with a low grit wet/dry and use it dry to sand and then wet sand up the higher grits.
Thanks, guys. I’m going to sand and polish this thing this afternoon. Ed
