Does anyone know someone who refurbishes skil 100s in the NJ area?

Recently got a skil 100 and am looking to get it cleaned up…  I was wondering if anyone in new jersey refurbed them so I wouldnt have to ship it out to cali to get fixed up?

All help is much appreciated!

Happy shredding

I think Rand who posts here could help you out.  He is in South Jersey near Ocean City.

What does it need???  I’ve had mine entirely appart and its not that difficult.

Power Tool Company on Memorial Drive in Neptune did a decent job with mine… and everybody else I know around here.

I have rebuilt a few in the past and I have some spare parts. I can’t strip the paint and polish it or powder coat it but I can probably help you with anything else or help you do it yourself. I am in South Jersey near Ocean City, let me know if you need anything.

It is easy to clean up the aluminum body on the skil with a fine grade steel-wool. The belt housing and the motor cover can be painted. Rand could show you the in and outs of taking the skil apart.  Then spend some time and polishing up the parts. All you need is some steel wool. a tasty adult beverage or two.  Have some music handy or a ball game on the TV.  In no time that skil will be looking like million bucks.

I now have to go back and find parts for my new Power Craft planer

The question was ask, how do you paint the belt cover abd motor cover. Both are made of steel. It is a very simple process.  First remove the covers. Next sand or se steel-wool to remove rust. It may require the use of a wire brush.  Once all the rust is removed sand down the whole unit to at least 220 . Clean the housing with a dry cloth.  and prime with a rattle can auto primer. build up a good base of primer. Next lightly sand the primer looking to see if there are any pits or starches showing. For those you may ad more primer.  It may require a Auto body fine detail putty, if really bad.  Once you are satisfied that the housing is looking good spray with any rattle can spay paint. I happen to like a satin black. Looks great with a polished aluminum body.
