does Greenlight have fin placement diagrams anymore?

I was directing a friend to their website for his quad fin placement - but couldn't find the diagram that used to be there.

Under "fin location" I found this:

Fin Location

Now that your board is completely shaped, you need to mark your fin locations on the bottom of the blank. Regardless of what fin system or number of fins you plan to use, you need to place a “shaper’s dot” where you would like the trailing edge of each fin to be located on the board. Greenlight has mapped out common fin placements for you here. For quad fins and thrusters, check out McKee’s Multisystem spreadsheets which provide detailed fin placement recommendations based on the size and shape of the board.

But when you click the link, nothing happens.  Its not a link anymore, no diagram comes up, nothing.  Anyone know what's going on?

Looks like their webmaster needs to check for dead links.

Got this email from them last week:

**Philosophy #5**

Design your board starting at the fins

Fins and fin placement are the most underappreciated aspect of surfboard design.
Before you start mowing foam, in the design process, it is best to ask yourself “How do I want this board to surf, and in what waves do I want to ride this board?” Loose and skatey for small mushburgers? Super fast and drivey for surviving monster barrels (or more likely closeout sections)? Boosting airs?
Fin position, toe-in, and cant, as well as fin template, foil, rake, and material all combine to produce a specific hydrodynamic output.
We’ve been kind of brainwashed as boardbuilders with the standard 1 1/8" - 1 1/4" in from the rail, 1/4" toe-in, blah blah blah. ‘Safety positions’ for standard copy-cat oulines. Do those positions even work best? Or do they just satisfy the need to put fins somewhere on the board?
Ever try placing your fins 1" from the rail, less toe-in and using a smaller surface area fin? Guess what, blazing speed and great hold in steep faces. Bigger fins placed 2" from the rail? Looser feel without sacrificing drive for smaller waves…
There are an infinte combination of fin setups to use, just know there are possiblities out there if you look out of the box. At some point in the near future I will write a new Design Guide newsletter providing more detailed info on fins and fin positions…
Knowledge is power.
If you’re not already using fin systems that provide adjustability like ProBox orFCS Fusions
you’re missing out on a valuable education on the affects of fin placement. If you’re serious about improving your surfing and board designs you should have at least one board (or borrow a friend’s) with an adjustable system to play with. But the simplest way to gain knowledge in the tremendous importance fins play in surfing just pop a different fin set in your favorite board and take it out for a session…
I could go on and on but I’ll stop for now. In closing here’s a post-session text message from a buddy I was surfing with yesterday:
“Never would of thought that the wrong fin created so much havoc. what a difference just changing that 1 trailer made. Thanks for the heads up brotha!”

I’m sure you already have it Huck.  But here is the link to the McKee fin placement tables etc.

Look under “Surfboard Templates”: http://greenlightsurfsupply.com/templates.aspx

You’ll then find a link to it: http://greenlightsurfsupply.com/images/PDFS/Fin_setups_quad_thruster_2plus1.pdf

OK, thanks to all who responded!  =)

YES !!!

....these are some good reminders ,  right here !

I sure hope he DOES follow through on writing a new design guide newsletter .... because  I , for one , would like to READ it , and put some of this into practice !!

 and ,

as [ / if / when ] swaylocks continues to remains an open-minded forum about surfboards and fin designs and placements and such , hopefully lots more knowledge , 'breakthroughs' , experience , [and better surfing , as a result?] will be shared ....

..... and ...our enjoyment of this wonderful life will increase daily !

keep surfing !

no worries !

and today , while home ,

I will be installing your BRILLIANT  save a broken tab inventions , in a couple of my broken fin box fins ...GREAT invention , cheers A2 for sending them !  new life to fins again yewwww !  stoked , mate !

  cheers

Chippy,

Can’t claim inventing those universal fin tabs

That one’s from Probox Larry. I just made the easy to install!

I was looking for fin layout diagrams as well.  Researching further it seemed that the general consensus was to put the side fins 1 1/4" from the rail.  But I just came across this new interview with Robert of Roberts Surfboards talking about fin placement and it changed my mind.

Interview about fin placement.

thats no big secret.  A lot of people put fins 1&1/8" off the rail.  They still need proper toe in, cant, fin template and size, and distance apart to work well.  It’s not just one measurement…

Absolutely true!

Good guidelines.

Use’ta be a chart on the “Shapers Square”.

Only my disrespect for rules make me smile, as I

test the bars on the cage…

Only my disrepect for the rules make me smile, as I test the bars on the cage…

That’s some good shit matty!

1 1/8" has been an industry standard for 25 years.

Hey GreenLight,

Im having trouble with the links they take me to your site but I geta  404 error page not found.

Also I tried to sign up for your newsletter, and get the same error. Is there some other way to get this information.

I have come across a few articles out of the news letter in the past and have found there to be good info in them I would like to be able to have access to that sort of stuff on a regular, Is this still something that you still do even? I see this is an old post.

Thanks for your time.

The GEARBOX fin placement diagramms can be found here now:

Wow, the Gearbox site has a lot of great information
