Yeah, I know most like to stay with the water designs, but had to share my longboard skate building adventure with you guys.
After watching Dogtown & Z-Boys 3 times I broke out some nice thin carboard and one of my skimmers for some smooth curves and laid out the template. Trace it on to some left over marine plywood. I ripped it down to ruff size with electric saw, but use a hand saw and a Sureform to create the shape. I rounded the edges just like shapeing rails which was a major pain in the ass. Hand painted graphics, sealed with non-tinted surface sand sealer, and hand cut the grip tape.
