I don’t know all the details, but its Saturday morning at Oceanside Pier. I heard from someone today they expect around 3000 people. Post up here what you know, and if you get a chance make it on down; it will be something worth participating in.

Donald Takayama Memorial Service
(Announcement: November 1, 2012)
Oceanside, CA — Waikiki, HI — Kugenuma, Japan
Please join friends and family on November 10, 2012 (and November 4
in Japan) to celebrate the life of legendary surfer and surfboard
craftsman Donald Takayama.
There will be three different ceremonies where all are invited to
come and pay respects. Before and after the paddleout ceremony (a
service held in the water, just beyond the surf line), you will
hear memories from some of Donald’s closest family and friends on
the shoreline.
All the details are still being worked out as you read this, but for
now please look for the location nearest you and mark your calendar.
You may return to either www.hawaiianprodesigns.com or facebook (Hawaiian Pro Design Surfboards andR.I.P. Donald Takayama

Due to the high volume of emails and calls, please be patient if you
have left a message and not heard back yet. We appreciate your
patience, understanding, and support.
We look forward to seeing you all soon to celebrate Donald’s incredible life.
Much Aloha,

Pretty messed up place around here when nobody comments on a true surfing legend, and a true master surfboard craftsman. And some of you folks think I am the one with the issues. Be a part of history and come on out a celebrate the life of the little big man.
Right on Melvile, I was starting to worry about this place; as if this place matters.
there is also one on Oahu on the same day…
If you didn’t make it, I wish you could have. Amazing the surfing legends in attendance I don’t want to do a disservice and leave out anybody. So my friend says: “That was classic;” to whcih I respond, “What?” “You just asked PT if he was going to paddle out, and he said he didn’t want, but had to, if Nat did.” Then I responded to my friend: “I guess that was.” So much of that stuff going on I can’t even process it all. Hopefully, some of the guys from here will post up some of their stories of the event. I know shaping legend, and Swaylock’s royalty Jim Phillips was there.
G rat. I don’t post on these threads because I don’t consider myself worthy. I’m just a long time recreational surfer making stuff in my own garage to amuse myself. Why pretend I’m anything else? Maybe others feel as I do. Hope that makes sense. Glad it went well and was well represented. Mike
And , I am in Australia [as are many other sways people , and also WORLDwide ] , so we can't always attend.
Doesn't mean we are not there in spirit , though.
I trust that footage was shot of the paddle out , the stories , the memories , the celebration of what no doubt was a life well lived that touched MANY people
I am thankful that his boards , movie footage , and photos remain as legacy to future shapers , surfers , and generations.
makes me think ...
"what do we leave , as a legacy ??"
cheers !
ben
Thanks Ben. You said it way better than me. Mike
He sold me a 54 Dodge sedan back in 1969. Funny how it’s what I remember him for. RIP Donald.
