Hi there, I finally got epoxy for marine purpose, its so called Dow 331, mixing ratio is 5 to 1. Pot life and cure life - still dont have this information. I did search the www.dow.com, and got the details of it, but still dont have the pot life and cure time info. And I would like to ask you guys about this epoxy. Any one have been using this stuff or any comments of 5 to 1 ratio? Thanks for your attention. Regards, Crabie
I have never heard of anything like that. All the stuff that I know of is always 2:1. Is this resin clear cast? Meaning will it be clear after it kicks. I know poly marine resin is brown. I would suggest doing a small sample batch, in order to give you a better idea as to what you are working with. I have called Dow in the past (I got the 800 number off the web site) and they were very helpful. I was looking for some styrofoam, but it was too expensive. It sounds like Hong Kong sucks, as far as getting board supplies. Good luck to you.
Thanks Mike, You’re right, in some ways, Hong Kong is really suck. The epoxy I bought is just a white plastic bottle without label, no instruction attached. I asked the boss about the pot life and cure time. He told me NO POT LIFE and the cure time is around 2&1/2 hours.~~~~I dont know why Dow can let the distributor to sell in such way. I did call the Dow, the guy replied my email few weeks later and told me to find another distributor ( there re two distributor only in here ). So I call to another one, it’s a wholesaler and sell in big oil tank~… The one I bought is highly viscous, I think I need to heat it in order to make it thin for glassing. I did the test already, its quite clear. Hope that it works for my surfboard.>>> I have never heard of anything like that. All the stuff that I know of is > always 2:1. Is this resin clear cast?
