Downing Hennassy 7'6" singel fin

I have picked up a 7’6" Downing Hennassy board. Got if for almost nothing. It has some nose damage that I was thinking about repairing. After I clean off the wax, I found the deck has a lot of bubbles that look like they were in the gloss coat. It now looks like a lot of work the bring it back. I was hoping one of you guys over in the islands could give me some information on this board. Is it even worth fixing? The board is glassed with volan glass and has a deck patch that runs about 2/3 of the board. It has a fairly mondern fin box, and is tinted red with a black pin line. Any information would be great. TK.

Howzit Bagman, Is that Jim Hennassy who was from San Diego, if it is he has lived here on Kauai since the mid 70’s. If it is jim I may be able to get some info for you. Maybe you could post a picture. Aloha, Kokua

Kokua, Thanks for getting back to me on this. Yes the stringer is signed by Jim Hennassy, kinda hard to make out but your lead helped. The SN is 60244, sweet board. Looks like Volan glass, but man at the bubbles in the gloss, that is going to really take me some time to work out. The nose repair is going to be easy, though it may not look all that great with the old glass being volan, and it being a red tint, the repairs always show up if you have to remove foam like I will have to on this one. Any information would be great. TK Bagman

Howzit Bagman, Yep looks like Jim’s work, Just what kind of info do you want?Aloha, Kokua

Well you have helped a lot already, I could not make out the name until you said the guys name was Jim Hennassy. He wrote it on a 1/8 stringer and I could not make it out at all until you gave me his name, then I saw it. I thought it was from the early 70s but the fin box looks like a newer style box. It is not a waveset type box. I would like to know about when it was made and what the fin looked like. TK for any help.

it sure looks great against the wood fence and geraniums the colors are downright edible mmmmmmm///ambrose /// did basa glass it ? look by the tail for a BASA

Ambrose, you tell me I’m the one asking the questions here(ha ha) I don’t know anything about this board. I do like the way it looks and if BASA glassed it he did not do a very good job on the gloss coat. Thinks for liking my wifes flowers, They are a pain in the butt when you are tring to do something and have to turn the board around because you can’t get to the other side. Hopeing to see you soon Bagman.
