Drying out EPS ding - Rinsing it out

Hi, I dinged my new EPS board, and did not catch it until after several sessions. Lots of water in there and struggling to get it out. I opened it up, been using gravity, hitting it with fan, hair dryer, shoving papertowel in there, etc., and it’s still wet. The cool spring weather aint helping, and I’m hesitant to blast it with the hair dryer too much. It’s a big board and my efforts to dry it, including drilling another “vent” hole, make the vacuum idea a challenge. The biggest/main ding is in the middle of the deck near the handle (it’s a SUP), so gravity is also a challenge to work with. All pretty difficult, and its been wet for a couple months now.

I’ve read on here that you should flush it with freshwater to expedite/complete drying, but nothing on specifics. Should I hold a hose to the dinged area for like 20 seconds, a minute, or just splash the thing?? And you rinse with freshwater from the get-go or attempt to rinse the salt out after the saltwater dries? At this point I feel like more water cant hurt and I will flood it, but interested to hear from the experienced.

2nd post: Not sure why the swaylocks website does not have a functional “quick reply” button (tried on my tablet and laptop and nothing happens when clicking) , so here is my follow up. Can anyone TELL ME exactly what to do, in a CONSTRUCTIVE response? I’ve looked at boardlady, her website does not help the rinsing question. That is why I am bothering with swaylocks. Why would I not rinse the SUP, when rinsing is advised elsewhere? I’ve explored other questions in the forum and rinsing process is not explicitly addressed. I’m already bummed my new board has taken on water, and EPS is not most forgiving when that happens, so only reply if you’ve actually got useful insight to share.

3rd post: Stingray, what’s the point of your post? I am referring to the quick reply button on top of the icon bar. Anyway that’s how my comp has it, and no text box exists to continue on the reply chain. Clunky website. Resin, thanks for actually providing some insight as other failed to do, even if it came with some attitude. I’ve had a board leaking for several weeks now, and I want to expedite drying. Does that offend you? No need to be demeaning.

Other than it being a SUP,  and the comedy potential, do not add more water inside the board.  http://www.boardlady.com/water.htm

Even after you dry out a water soaked ding, there are salt crystals left as residue. We all know what happens to table salt in humid weather. It attracts moisture. Salt crystals that remain in a supposedly dry ding will attract moisture and that moisture will become trapped in your board after you repair it.

yes, I can tell you exacatly what to do. and I can tell you how to do it in a big hurry…

as a matter of fact I can tell you what to do faster than you can say “quick reply”…Gosh…

It’s a surfbord for pete’s sake.

If you want to spray it with water…go ahead. It’s just going to take longer to dry.  Don’t worry about sea salt unless you have a heart condition. There wont be enough to matter in a ding.

Just open up the ding, pull out all the looser crushed fibermaglass…put the board in the sunlight, ding side down and watch the water come bubbling out.  once that stops, let the board dry for a few more days until you are certain its dry.  I usually wait at least a week.

Now thats done you fill the hole with light weight epoxy hole shit of your choice,  then sand it flat, then glass it, then sand all your first timer bumps out, then make it shiney by spraying it with krylon gloss or some other brand of choice.

See that was fast… and easy.  Maybe waiting for it to dry will slow you down a bit.
