I have my power planer hooked up to my shop vac and it’s SO efficient that I don’t even have to wear any mask (though I do anyway), it’s that good. Shop vac is nice an mobile also.
how big of a shop vac do you use? i was looking at them in the local hardware store and wondering what to buy…
I just bought a Craftsmen 5.0hp, 12 gallon shop vac last weekend. Works AWESOME for cleaning up. I shaped a 9’8" over a 2 or 3 day period in my tiny garage, and that thing cleaned the whole place up in 10 minutes. Not a speck of foam anywhere. I don’t have a planer hooked up to it, otherwise I’m sure there’d be no mess to begin with. Best purchase I’ve bought yet. and then just today, a frien stopped by and GAVE me a mobile exhaust system. It’s a big blower that you’d use when glassing. Put it near a window/door, hook up the big 'ol plastic “slinky pipe” to it and point it where you want…should be VERY nice.
thanks…appreciate the info. i was trying to figure out how big of a canister i needed on the vacuum to hold the foam from shaping a board from 6’ to 9’
shop vacs are loud, dustcollectors, although not silent, don’t shreek like most shop vacs… but shop vacs are dirt cheap…
i noticed your in honolulu, if you have not check out Woodcraft yet you should pay them a visit. an amazing store that will get your mind working…
thanks for the tip. i’ve thought about heading down there since i live and work in the kalihi area.
seems like every time the woodcraft name comes up, a discussion on overpricing is soon to follow. i’ll probably check it out though, just to dream a little dream…
BTW, dirt cheap is often appealing to me, i can always wear ear plugs…
yep overpriced comes up but it is cool that the largest and most well stocked woodcraft in nation is in Honolulu… there is a wearhouse in the back that is just as stocked as the main store and is probably about twice as big…lots to look at…
