Dusty Glass Cloths in the washing machine

Hi Guys

My wife says I nee to check with you guys if it is OK to put my cloths int he washer after I have been sanding a board. Is there any danger.

She says its Ok with her if it’s OK with You.

“MMM were have I heard that before”

I can’t remember the last time my work jeans got washed, but every thing else goes in the washer.

epoxy stains look suspect once they’ve been in the washer though.

I think your wife should hose you down in the garden before your allowed back in the house.

Dude it the middle of winter as you should know.(UK) I am not in SA yet. Hosing down in the garden is not an option.

Get a pair of coveralls or a tyvec suit or a change of cloths even and leave em in your shop the cloths underneath stay almost dust ,resin what ever free…then you can wash them once a year or never like I do!

Yer I know ; ) your cloths will be fine in the washer.

Note to Mrs Grant - you should only hose Swift down if he’s been spending too much time making boards and not putting up shelves.

It’s OK, no problem. Just pour a quart of acetone in the bleach tank…

KIDDING!!! PLEASE, DON’T DO THAT!!!

Seriously, all my clothes go into the washer after shaping, sanding, glassing, whatever…

Swifty,

When I finally get around to washing my work clothes I always was them seperately from everything else and then run the washer one more time before anything else is put in there. I have had transference (sp) of fiberglass particles to other clothing when I washed them together with my work clothes.

Yeah, man,

Don’t put the sanding gear in with your wifes delicates…

Separate wash for all my work gear. Hot water no good with any polyester, either spills or dust:- The stuff leaves a stink.

i wash my woodshop + clothes after hanging out w/ shapers / glassers seperately w/ my dad’s gardening gear. Then we wash it again. Then we use the washer to wash floor rugs etc . . .

by then you can use the washer for clothes.

Howzit Swifty, Just blow the dust off with your compressor after sanding. The funny thing is that most of what gets sanded of the board is just resin and it isn’t an itch factor. but if your are sanding into the glass or foiling fins you are sanding the glass which is an itch factor. I wash everything together. Aloha,Kokua

I used to build custom boats and about once a month me and my glassing partner would take all our work clothes to the laundromat. They were maxed out with glass dust and general junk so we figured the washer and dryer we used were nuked when we were done. We changed laundormats each time just in case somebody complained.

every time i have sanded a board i have been in my boardies or my wettie. but when doing fins, don’t what ever you do wash your boxers or underwear in the same wash. spent the whole day in school scratching my balls. But with all the bizarre shit i do in school I am surprised people talk to me.
