those “territorial idiots” including the “voice of reason” among others have strong private opinions concerning your hero. no one denies his skill as a craftsman (albeit w/o originality) or his public persona. its his personal character thats earned the distain.
Flex is very impotant facet of surfing and wave riding. How many boogie boarders do you see riding fiberglass boogie boards? None. They can tweak those things all over to stall and squirt outta stuff. They also survive the wedge. If your wondering how/why surftechs snap(and they do snap regularly) Just look out the window of the next plane your on, and watch the wing. See it flexing up and down? If it was rigid, it would snap off. I have been building/repairing boards for many years, and couldn’t tell you how many longboards i’ve seen with horizontal stress cracks along the bottom. Common scenario: Beginner(w/zero weight distribution experience) paddles for wave. Catches wave and fails to distribute weight back towards tail. Pearls into the sandbar nose first and slides off the board.Board takes a serious hit to the bottom, but the flex soaks much of it up by reverberating the shock throughout the lenght of the board. Depending on how hard of a hit it was, you may be left with some stress cracks. The same scenario, with a surftech would be more like- doink/snap/2 boogie boards. Also delamination is a concern. When a board flexes it minimizes separation from core to skin. Core being the blank, and skin being the glass. When a board with little to no flex experiences a heavy shock, where it’s trying to flex but can’t, simple physics will tell you somethings gotta give…and that something is the bond between the two.

“Boogie boarding” is not anywhere near the apex of intelligently conceived pronecraft. Dave Parmenter makes foam/glass bellyboards and they dont flex. They work incredible. What would happen if the unwashed masses ever found THAT out? But then DP doesn
t produce 20 million sponges a year in third world nations, does he? Surfing`s all about numbers and money, baby. Not flex. Stupid American shaper.

Other shapers make sweet little (no flex) foam and glass bellyboards, too. The sponge mindset is a total dead end. People need pull their heads out and take a look around. http://members.cox.net/seacaver/butterfly.htm

NSW?
NSW?
I learned in school that “N.S.W.” stands for “New South Wales”, a place in the beautiful country of Australia. But maybe “NSW” also means “New Stupid Wanker”. My dad says this is about Mr. Bob Duncan of Wilderness Surfboards. His name is not “Mr. Druncan”, so you should learn to spell it right! He`s a quiet type- a true innovator and craftsman worthy of respect. So tell the truth and be nice! Have fun!
