Hey everyone, i am trying to put together a weekend road trip for my Universities Surf Club. We are located in Conway, SC. Our usual spot has been dead and we want to branch out and see some more of our coast. I Was just wondering if anyone knows any good spots for 1. Camping (on the beach or nearby) 2. Surfing 3. having fires.
Hatteras, North Carolina!! Has a great place to camp near the beach by the lighthouse. When north east winds are pounding the east facing beaches, its offshore in the cove. Bring a fishing pole, as its world class surf fishing around the point. Dont run over turtle eggs or theyll shoot you and put you in there crab traps. Also, there is Billy Mitchell campground inside the cove near Frisco.
Sebastian Inlet has several campgrounds close by and is supposed to be a world class wave. It wasn’t firing quite like that when I was there, but they wouldn’t say that if it didn’t get good. Do you usually go to Folly?
If you’re willing to make the trek our club would be happy to host yours. Rhode Island has some pretty sweet points, reefs and beach break if you don’t mind a little cold water. We can offer backyard camping and lots of fire. We’re especially good at the fire.
forget NJ there are no places that you can do that there. carolina beach NC, hatteras NC, assateague/chincoteague MD(wild ponies). I am sure there is some place in florida.
…in jacksonville florida, katheryn abbey hanna park, nice campgrounds, home to the mayport ‘poles’, probably N Fla’s best break…long lefts when doing it’s thing…also North Point campgrounds near sebastain inlet outside of cocoa beach, haven’t been in a while, but great camping right on the intracoastal, directly across the street from a premiere break, ‘spanish house’, & approx. 2-3 miles from sebastian inlet, which is also a state park & allows camping…
Rachel, ive talked to a few people and there is high interest in coming up your way. We are having a meeting tuesday and I would like to bring this up if it was a serious offer. I was wondering where in RI you are and what school(?) your club represents.
I made the mistake of going off roading right after the last big rain. Due to water use restrictions i cant clean my truck off. It is horrendous now, some kids drew in the mud and it looks like shiot now.
I go to the University of Rhode Island. We’re in Kingston, RI, which is about 15-30 minutes from all the great breaks here. Our president lives in a house right near the beach with a big backyard, but depending on how many people you bring he also has a couple bedrooms to spare. I’m meeting with him tonight and I’ll ask him, but I’m sure he’d be happy to have you guys come up. We love hanging out with other clubs and are always trying to make connections.
When are you thinking about coming up? The water temp is dropping pretty quickly. Even in the middle of winter the most I’ve ever used in SC was a 4/3 and boots.
About 2 miles north of the inlet is a Brevard County park called Long Point, they almost always
have ‘‘primitive’’ sites open, but the hookup sites can get booked, so check ahead.
i’m with MD… Long Point park is the call for Central Florida. i actually prefer the “primitive” sites! – last i checked you can camp there for $1 per person per night!!!..and the sites are on their own little island, which makes for some groovy scenery, and since it’s away from the rest of the park, you can be a little loud after hours, and no one comes around to hassle you about all your liquor.
