Effects of a hard edge?

I was wondering what are the effects of having to hard of an edge starting from the tail going up about the first 1/3 . If the hard edge on the bottom of the rail goes to far past my front fins what would be advantage or the disadvantage?

hard edges release water and helps to maintain speed…

the opposite is a soft edge (round rail)…this keeps water more attached to the board (suction)…kind of grabs/wraps the water

putting a hard edge all the way around would make a fast board that is very unforgiving on turns (board would track along its rail) and would be very unpredictable to a non expert surfer
