Egg Design Help

Making two 7’ Eggs for Va Bch mushburgers (up to head-high but mushy). I am using the measurements from the book posted on here a while back to make my template. My daily driver is a 6’4" - 15 1/2", 20 1/2", 15"  2 3/4" thk. Diamond-tail Quad.

Doing on as a typical ‘retro’ egg with a slight belly, 50/50 rails, etc. No trouble with the design on this one.

I want the other one to be more performance based (hate the term - easiest way to describe). Single to double concave? Bonzer? Rail profile? Quad? 2+1?

Suggestions needed from egg-sperienced afficianoados (Sorry, strange day).

…hello,

go to the “egg thread” or like that

long thread and possibly you can find your answer

Skillz, Do whatever Reverb tells you on the subject of Eggs. You will be hard pressed to find a nicer product than his. His boards have “flow” all through them, things of beauty.

…hello Tblank, I appreciate your kind words…

Hey Reverb, I’m not trying to blow smoke either. Your boards display speed and motion just sitting still.

Credit where credit is due.

they have it all

ALOOOOOHAAAAA!

Reverb - You have convinced me to drink the Kool-Aid from your past postings and now when I need you most you leave me hanging!! Please advise on general rocker measurements, type of bottom, rails, etc. I seem to remember from your past post that you frown on providing info to others for professional gain, but i’m just a garage hack! PM me if you must, but please open the vault just a little.

I have never spent anytime feeling up eggs as these were not interesting to me. Big mistake. The only eggs around here that I have seen are the retro variety.

Now if I could get Huie to send me a template like he sent to Beerfan, I might could become a professional!!

…hello No skillz,

man I suggested to check that thread cause inside there s plenty of opinions and not only mine.

Also you can see eggs from different builders or shapers.

-a prescription for the “right” shape via internet is somewhat difficult; but seems that your shortboard have similar basic dims that an egg in that range.

why you want a bigger egg if you feels ok with that board? or you don t fit on that board?

a mini egg between 6 4 and 6 8 and no more than 21

I can put dims here and there but the overall planshape (plus fin/s set up) curves as a whole is what  s important…regarding your surfing skills, and those mushy waves.

so imagine that modern mini egg as a big shortboard with round pin tail

put the same rails, similar rocker, do a flat deck.

.Bonzers not an advantage for mushy crap

.Thrusters not an advantage due to the length of the board so the placement of your back foot.

.Singles not an advantage in that mushburger and you should change the rails

.Quad is your option (by Descartes…)

if you want better take off put a bit more meat under cheast but not too much onto the nose; you dont want excesive thickness on the nose.

if you are a front foot surfer put more rocker on the last 24"

do a kick tail if you want loose and the wave is somewhat hollow

From your daily driver, you could go shorter and wider IMHO. But the beauty of eggs is that they can work at short lengths, midlengths and long
