Question regarding my next board. I’m 5 11, 185lbs… mid 30s good shape. My go to board is my 9 6 traditional nose rider. On this board I’d consider myself intermediate to advance and I mostly surf pleasure point/ Santa Cruz east side breaks. So I’m looking to move into something shorter that still has that glide. I tried out a 6 foot quad fish with a fair amount of volume. Essentially it didnt quite have the paddling power for me and while I could sometimes-make it work (especially with crumbly beach break waves) the learning curve was gonna be a bit too steep so I found myself grabbing my nose rider more often than not.
Ill be primarily surfing it on day’s when it’s too fast or big for my nose rider. Unfortunately I don’t have a lot of friends with extensive quivers so trying out a wide range of boards isnt an easy option. Checking in to see if this board would be a good step down board from my long board. Wondering if the length and volume are sufficient or if I should go bigger… Or any other thoughts or suggestions. Thanks for your input.
…hello, if you think that you are near advanced, you CAN surf a 6 board; may be you are not so advanced…
a 6x22x3max (tapered out to tail) fish can hold a 98Kg guy pretty well, so can float and paddle more than fair. I have more than one customer in that configuration.
So, that egg can support you and you can paddle pretty good, BUT never similar like a 9 6 noserider!.
-Why retro? why not an egg with modern rocker?
Also, if you still wants the glide as you say, you should go with a bigger egg, but with more tail rocker to provide better situations on those beach breaks.
Cool, thanks for the input. To clarify when I mentioned “intermediate to advance” I was refering to my longboarding skills… cleary not so advanced on a shorter board! What would be the difference between the Hobie reto egg vs. a modern egg?

Resinhead, Nice looking ride. My first impression was it looked likea Wayne Lynch board. that is a compliment by the way Something like that in a 5 fin Bonzer fin set, would really be sweet.
