“Some long time hull riders will tell you that their boards are the logical extension of the longboard”
Makes sense to me. That’s what originally got me asking questions about them, since I’m looking to transition back down to shorter boards after years of riding various 9’+ longboards. I can remember a buddy’s 9’6" Bahne in 1966 or early '67, just before lengths began to drop, that had really thin rails.
I learned on full-on logs back in the early '60s but didn’t surf during '67 or '68, so I kinda missed the whole McTavish/thick,V-tail trend as well as the hull thing. My first short board was pretty much a dead ringer for the mini gun PICs being posted near the end of the current “B.K.” thread: vaguely similar, in some respects, to what I’m seeing in some of hull PICs that have been posted (knifely rails, nose belly, flat rocker; long, flexy single fin) but a totally different in plan shape.
