Electric Planers and shapers Barrels

Hi guys, I know there was a thread about this somewhere but I can’t seem to find it.

I’m a newbie to shaping so I’m after some info on electric planers, at the moment I am looking at purchasing the Hitachi P20ST and then buying a Shapers barrel off shapers.com.au … Can anyone tell me if the shapers barrel is necessary or can I just use the blade that is already in the planer? Also there is a cordless Hitachi P18DSLP4, I’m a bit of a fan of cordless power tools. Does anyone have any opinions on them? Is cordless good for shaping or does it have less power than a corded planer? Will I be able to fit a shapers barrel to the cordless planer?

Thanks in advance!

…hello, an electric planer with 2 blades is used for PU foam and with care and sharpness for PS. The carbide barrels are only for PS. Does not work too good in most PU foam.

Regarding cordless Hitachi, there s a thread in “industry section”
