Elmer's Paint Pens @ Wal-mart?

Does anyone know if these elmer’s brand paint pens will work on a finished board sealed with an acrylic spray. I found then in the craft section and they have many colors. I can’t fined the words “water based” anywhere on the box, which they still could be. They do say permanent on the Box. The reason i ask is are most paint pens water based by default?. I saw a guy out in the water with a sick paint pen design on top of a surftech he had done with some paint pens he got from K-mart. Wanted to find out before i tried them out, cause i can return them and check out the sharpie brand pens if these won’t work.

Kowalskikm I can’t answer your question about Elmer’s but I used my daughter’s paint pens.

My wife said she purchased them at WalMart.

They are Painters brand from Hunt Corp in N. Carolina.

Knowing my wife/accountant, they are likely the cheapest pens ever made.

The designs are still on the boards after one year, both boards have seen heavy use and sun.

I ride my bike to the beach and boards are occasionally in the sun for hours.

I used a clear spraypint to seal the work.

Thanks Riddim for that info… still looking for an answer i found a page that had a bit of good info for those of you interested in paint pen art. http://www.goldenzah.com/Surfboards/SurfMarkers.html

Howzit kowalskikm, I suggest you do a test first since most permanent markers are alcohol based and will bleed. A lot of the kids markers are waterbased but I would still do a test with those. The proven brands are Posca, Zig, india ink and I think it’s Shaprie that makes a water based pen also. Probably a few others that I’m not familar with.Aloha,Kokua

You’re right Kokua, Sharpie does make a paint marker now. Drew Brophy sells a “custom” set on his website. If I remember correctly, he states that they’re better than Posca. Can’t confirm or deny that since I haven’t tried 'em yet.

Howzit surfthis, My personal choice for pin line work is india ink, Posca was always the last choice.Aloha,Kokua
