I bought a Clark blank a few weeks ago from a then, local surf shop. At the time i had access to a garage and tools to work with. This is the first board ive ever tried to shape. Because of job troubles and a lack of motivation I didn’t get to even start the board. I am now at school living in an apartment complex with no obvious place I can shape. So I ask this, Would it be ill-advised to work outdoors? What kind of environmental Hazard would I be posing by shaping outside on the grass? I really want to get down to work but I dont want to do any ecological damage or anything that might get me arrested/fined. Any insight would be great.
You might try setting up a portable enclosure using plastic drop cloths over a PVC frame. Just something simple to catch the debris as you shape. Long term big picture… a few foam shavings aren’t going to accelerate the demise of the planet anyway. I’d be more concerned about what the neighbors think.
Yeah crooks lay down the plastic and go to town. I just sawed into a blue dow and swept it up. I wonder how much of that foam is plastered behind all the walls?

For that matter, you could buy a good size mesh tent fully enclosed and be away from the bugs and leaves and dust and still have full ventilation and shade, for shaping and glassing – clean up would be easy too. Rig some lights for that matter…

Hmmm. 14 x 14, for $54, or
14 x 10 for $35
That’s my plan for the glassing. I don’t know who the discount outdoors store is out there, but there’s mine.
I dont know why I didn’t think of this from the start. One of the shop owners near me just offered to rent his space out, and since im low on cash anyways this is definately a better idea. Thanks for all the replies guys
