Double 4oz glass so it was difficult to get both wet without nickel size bubbles. Had plenty of epoxy resin and pulled the cloth right. What’s the best way to get em both to lay down without pushing the resin into the cloth??
Same as with poly…let it soak in a bit…move the resin and give it a little time. RR epoxy? Soaks in fine for me…dunno…I used RR and 2x4oz last board…no problems…have fun…
Pour half the resin in a thick stripe along the stringer. Squeegee that in increasingly large ovals up & down the board without stopping. If you see any shiny places, those have too much resin and you should scoop it off with the squeegee or pull it to a dry spot. The stringer will get the most resin soaking in and will hold your cloth still.
When you can’t pull it any farther out, pour a remaining quarter along the edge of the board but not so close to the rail that it drips off. Starting at one end, squeegee that resin straight (perpendicular) to the rail & into your lap cloth with your other hand behind the hanging cloth. Work all along that rail until its saturated & still hanging. Then go back and pull resin back from the rail towards your big wet out area in the middle - you should have enough to connect, if they weren’t already. Then use the last 1/4 of your resin on the other side and do the same thing. When all the laps are hanging, go around & cut strings. Then wrap your laps, working from the center of each side towards the ends and going back to the center to go the other way too. You’ll get very little resin on the floor, shouldn’t get any dry or too-wet spots, and your lam should come out just about clean enough to hotcoat with minimal sanding, if any. Just a surform to clean up the laps and any overlapping thick spots like on sharp corners.
Air bubbles aren’t from glassing too dry. Actually, I find with epoxy, they’re from glassing too wet. The cloth floats up on top of the resin and stays high. Then eventually the resin either soaks into the foam or runs out & self levels over a wider area and you’re left with the cloth up above the foam. To avoid air bubbles, glass drier not wetter!
Yeah, I had too much resin. First time at epoxing the deck. Next time will be better. Btw, I never have strings because I roll my rails horizontally, then tuck them with the roller, then squeegy to taste. No more strings!

Could you expand on this? I’m not sure I understand. If there is a way to NOT get strings, I wanna know. Thanks!
using a roller instead of a squeegee won’t pull the end threads out so much…no strings
Howzit?!? Proper lay-up is key for me. the extra energy you spend to square-up the weave, cut a nice clean lap with no hacks or chops, and when lapping the rails, concentrate from the center towards the ends, lengthwise, gives a much greater chance of success. The cleaner the lay-up to begin with means the overall lamination will be much cleaner, making for happy glassing! Aloha…RH
