Janklows choice is a little harsh. Plus, i wouldnt know whether to use it on me (because it was all my doing trying to save a little hardner) or on my board.
Well, I am off to Home Depot for a case of sandpaper this morning…
what does everyone think of Surffoils idea of putting some hardner on top of this and see if it sets it off more?
I’m sure Surfoil was trying to help, but you still will have a weak layer. Epoxy needs an exact mix to reach strength. You’re on the right path, although a hard one. Sand it off with a value sized pack of sand paper and get a digital scale.
Your boards will be stronger with the right mix, your attitude will be better knowing this, you will treat your wife and kids betteryou stop kicking your dog, your wife will cancel her plans to leave you for that guy she knew in high school, you will become more optimistic about life, you will buy that winning lotto ticket and then take all of us to Indo for a week. I don’t see how you can loose.
It’s all in the sand paper. Go. It’s calling your name.

FTR, I was just mostly riffing on Greg Tate’s line, however, thinking about it now, I would probably can it and do another. Maybe not, if it was sitting in front of me and I thought it was irreproducible genius, but you are guaranteed 5 great boards if you can it right now. (as per the Exceptionally Simple Theory of Everything)
Also, it sounds like a ton of exceptionally messy work, and the blank under may already be ruined by the uncured resin soaking in. That’s actually what I had in mind.
Back from Home Depot with a case of sand paper, heat gun, etc. Tried the hardner on it while i was gone but it just made a mess. Time to pay the price of being cheap with hardner. I will fill you in if i come out on the other side. Hey, how does Tate know me and my family habits so well
My experience with sanding partialy cured epoxy is the epoxy just heats up and turns into super sticky goo that is even harder to scrape off and I went through about 25 bucks in clogged paper. In fact, I waited until it got cold at night to do my scraping because the epoxy was a bit harder and scraped better. I got it done finally, re-coated, and like the board even though it is yellowing so fast you can almost see it happen(probably just my imagination). Mike
Back from the brink of suicide. After 4 hours of heat gun, sand, heat gun, sand…I have finally gotten the 3oz of partially cured epoxy off and now can redo the pin line. Things learned:
-swaylocks is the go to place for support and the hard truth
-RR is great stuff; stick flawlessly to Gregs 2 to 1 ratio
-putting hardner on partially cured mix does nothing but make a mess
-vinegar, soapy water, denatured alcohol, acetone all didnt seem to help
-heat guns are great; dont burn your glass
-3oz of uncured epoxy clogs $25 of 3M hook disk pretty quickly-right Rooster
So, now that i am all proud of myself, Rooster has firmly set a paranoia that will last the life of this board. Will the heat from the gun, uncured epoxy hitting foam, etc cause yellowing, blush, delam? Well, all for another post. Thanks to all.
I don’t think my yellowing board had anything to do with the uncured epoxy episode. The deck and bottom of my board are yellowing. My problem occured only on the deck. I think my batch of resin did not have the proper amount of uv protecter in it. I was not trying to imply the two were related. I have not used RR yet. I used the aluzine stuff from Fiberglass Hawaii. I would not hesitate to use it again, either. I like it. mike
I thought i was in bad shape yesterday. Thats a full on meltdown. I can’t tell you if its because you didnt use Additive F. I have used it on everything, even on my lam
