I’m using the Resin Research system with fast hardener and I’m wondering how long it takes for it to full cure and be ready for surf. The temp in here is about 70-75 degrees. I’m lamming it today and will hotcoat tomorrow. Would it be ready by Tuesday (potential good swell)?
yeah, no prob…and the long-range forecast has it lookin’ like Wednesday will be better than Tuesday…good luck.
I am in Orlando as well…the thing to remember with RR is temp control. Once it has cured enough so that it isn’t tacky anymore, if you are on a tight schedule, go and put it in your car with the windows up, in the sunlight. Living in FL, as you know, you can get a car up to probably 100 degrees even now late Nov. If you can keep it at 100 degrees rather than 70 for a few days, you will be far better off. I know that you can potentially overheat the epoxy, I forget what the exact temp is but Greg has mentioned it on here before…however, you shouldn’t come close to that limit now, its not warm enough…
The temperature limit would be that of the foam not the epoxy. The epoxy should be good up in the range of 225-250 degrees, whereas the foam is only good up to around the 120 mark.

Airframe, thanks for clearing that up…I knew that I had heard Greg mention the upper limit for the epoxy…I just didn’t realize it was that high. unfortunately, I forgot about the foam…I have been using the heat the board post-cure in the car trick for awhile now…would you say this is an OK idea, or am I risking the foam? I know that there are better ways than my method, but mine is free, and easy…what do you think Airframe?
sbvfive…
Post curing in the car should do just fine. It would be nice to be able to control the ramp up and ramp down of the temperature so maybe leaving a window open a crack may give you a little control. I don’t think the temperature in your car will exceed the limits of the foam, as long as you don’t live in Las Vegas in the summer!

Sounds like a plan! Thanks guys. I would think by putting it in the car in the morning then taking it out after it gets dark and leaving the windows cracked would have a nice ramp up to the heat and back to cool.
Don’t warp the board while it’s in the car. Place on evenly spaced area. Remember , the epoxy is not fully cured when you toss the board into your car!
