Epoxy Gloss Coat?

Treat it like a poly gloss? Using some epoxy sanding additive. Start with #180, #220, #400, then #600? Polish as usual??

Or… epoxy gloss coat and just leave as is???

Thanks

Sand your lam coat nice and smooth and gloss with epoxy, thats it.

Be carefull of finger prints, wash your board down with denatured alcohol and gloss in the late afternoon away from any breeze and insects.

Use a fine mohair roller and don’t work the resin too much, it will even itself out…

That should do it…

Starting with 320 (400 even better) would be preferred. Only using the 220 on the rail line if you have to. I dry sand until I reach 400.

With epoxy, I’ve find that you really need go through the sanding schedule very thoroughly. That is; making sure you remove all the scratches before going to the next grade. Epoxy seems a little more stubborn in this area opposed to polyester. Also with epoxy, I haven’t had much luck stopping at 600 as you can with polyster. I go all the way up to 100o and then machine compound, micro finish, and then finally polish.

And like Hicksy said: make you’re board is clean before you start. And use double the amount of additive F (2cc’s per ounce) if you’re using RR epoxy. Leave as is if it comes out level.

edit: typo

Hicksy,

where do you get denatured alcohol in Oz. What other pseudonyms does it go under? Whenever I have asked for it anywhere all I get is blank looks. Thanks.

Cheers

Hey RDM

I’d try asking at a chemist, isopropal alcohol is another name but explain what you are using it for, isopropal alcohol has some illicit uses too, so nothing suss… I would expect the epoxy supplier might have better info though.

In the usa you can get denatured alcohol at any hardware store or paint store, they usualy keep it next to all the other solvents.

Maybe it goes by a different name? I’m almost certian that isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) is different.
