Epoxy hotcoat streaks

Hi there,

Am building my first board and have come across an issue with my hotcoat today. Using Kinetix epoxy resin and hardener. Triple checked I had the ratio right, weighed out both parts and mixed thoroughly. The resin poured on ok and looked clear, shiny and flat after brushing out. But when I came back to check it 10-15mins later it had gone all streaky and had a sort of ‘skin’ on it.

Just wondered if anyone has come across this before with epoxy, couldn’t find any exact same examples when searching. Or had any suggestions on what may have caused it?

I gave the lamination a light sand/scuff, blew off the dust and wiped down the board with isopropyl beforehand, was wearing gloves and made sure not to handle the board gloveless after sanding the lamination laps. Room temp was around 24c (75f).

Another pic of the streaks

Never see this. Let well cure, in hot place if possible, then sand to see if it’s not only the surface.

I have seen much narrower streaks several times.

Always thought it was some blush variant

Thanks for the replies guys, it seems to have cured hard so will how it looks after sanding.

Wash it like you would for blush first before sanding.

If it is some form of blush, you don’t want to drive it down into sanded grooves if you plan to add another coat

Yes good advice. Water+soap+scourer then rinse. Never a bad idea before epoxy sanding.

“Slabbing”. Slow cure and thick resin. Provided it has hardened and cured; sand flat and keep going.
