I was under the impression that epoxy was going to cost a little more than regular poly resin. I called FiberglassHawaii today and they wanted to charge $80 for a kit of 96oz. Is this right? If so why is the stuff so much more?
That’s for the System Three ssb12 resin which is probably the only clear uv- stabilized epoxy available so the price is premium.
Price-wise, you’re better off using regular epoxy and coating it with a protective clear coat. I use a few to several coats of a clear waterborne exterior polyurethane “varnish” with pretty good results. Dries to a very hard film considering it is a one-part finish and its water clean-up to boot. Cheapest epoxy I have found is US Composites: http://www.shopmaninc.com/
$44 a gallon but after using it as well as a couple of other brands I think to some extent you get what you pay for.
Are there set prices for the epoxy by resin research inc.? How do their prices compare to others?
Also what is the best UV protection clearcoat to put on an epoxy board?
Resin research has the best prices ive found for epoxy. Here are the prices.
