Epoxy Questions (Some help needed from the UK)

  1. I know it is not good to sand down to the weave with poly resin but what about. Is it also not so good.
  2. What if I give it a light sanding before I hotcoat.
  3. I am in the UK so what can I use to clean the brushes after hotcoating that I can find at B+Q or Home Base
  4. I am using R+R epoxy. It goes milky as expected but after using it for a while it the milkyness starts to cerdle at this put should I no longer use that which is in the bucket and only continue to work with the resin on the board
Keep well

1 same as poly, best not to sand heavily into the weave as you are removing glass in the same way.

2 I always hotcoat as soon as the resin has gelled, too soft to sand, ensures a good chemical bond, if you have to sand, a quick and light hand sand.

3 I am afraid that I use acetone still. The best tip I have heard is to put your brushes into a freezer after use, that way no danger of contamination. Could try meths or even liquid hand cleaner that you can then wash out with water.

4 The milkyness is caused by small bubbles caused by moving the resin around too quickly I expect, this will happen if you squeegee as with poly. I use small mohair roller (4") to wet out, then plastic spreader to move the excess out to the rails. Any resin that is milky should not be reused as it will cause streaks on the board.( you may only notice them in certain light)

Hope this helps
