Epoxy repiar on poly board?

Hi

One of my mates hit a rock and ripper his fin box clean out. I said that I would replace it for him tomorrow.

problem is my poly resin has gone off, so I’m planning on useing epoxy.

I don’t have any worries obout the glass at the bottom of the box or the slurry around it , but was wonddering if I would have any bonding issues if I added a cap over the top,

I’m sure I’ve read that epoxy repairs are fine on poly boards but I just want some reasurance as I’ve not tried it before.

I did epoxy over poly when I re-shaped just the nose of a board. Just rough up the old poly real good, and make sure there is lots of overlap. When that board broke, a year later, there was no sign of delamination at the poly/epoxy junction.

My first ding repair I used 10 minute epoxy and glass from a boat store to glass on a fin. This was in the 80s before they had the interstruddle(internet), but I got lucky the fin is still on. The epoxy is a little more yellow than the poly but strong.May be a UV issue.

Thanks guys, much appriciated

In that case I will put the extra work in and cap the box. I’m using Gregs R+R so I don’t think yellowing will be an issue, and the boards pretty old already.

I’ll sant the poly down to the the weave so I’m bonding fibre to fiber.

I don’t think my mate will care what it looks like, he’ll just be happy to have it back in the water, but I want to do the best job a can.

Lavarat what is interstruddle??? difference between old epoxies and the new ones, just intrested.
