I’ve got two bottles of resin I mix together for fixing dings on a firewire. I’m afraid I don’t really know what they are, except that they don’t destroy eps foam and the ratio I mix by is 39:100 by wieght. The smaller of my two liquids looks like it’s crystalized in the bottom of the bottle (leaving some liquid on top). I tried heating it up, but that didn’t seem to do anything. I tried mixing up some resin anyway but it hasn’t gone off, it’s still soft 15 hours later.
Is there anything I should know, is there any way of fixing it? - my favourite board is out of action and everywhere is closed for the holidays
Usually the hardener (smaller part of mix by volume or weight) stays liquid and more watery/less thick, while the resin (larger part) gets thicker and forms crystals over time esp. at low temperature. For resin crystals I put the bottle in a hot water bath for hours, it clears up and works fine.
If hardener has problems (which usually don’t include crystals for me) it probably won’t work.If your test mix doesn’t go off, repeat it at a temperature >70F. If it doesn’t go off then, you may have got the mix wrong, reverse the ratio. This could happen if you forgot which was hardener and which was resin I guess. But in the end, throw it out if a test batch does not perform.
If it’s a little ding, any old epoxy from hardware store will seal it and add some strength, you could always do that and re-repair it after a few gentle sessions,
