yes, it happened to me and the hotcoat was chipping and not bonded chemically. i also appl. to early and the glas started to float …ufff. now i just let it cure sand a little and appl. the hot coat and have no problems anymore.
i’m not using RR.

BTW, i lammed on Sunday night and i plan to hotcoat tonight, so i’m pretty sure i’ll be fine…just wondering what would happen if i waited like a month…
i think i got you wrong, but shouldn’t be a problem as it’ll be a mec. bonding anyway.

I think the general rule is that if you wait more than 24 hours before hotcoating, then you want to scuff up the lam first.
I usually give it a quick go over by hand with a piece of 80-100 grit just to make sure.
I have had 2 boards with flaky hotcoats in the past, though it was due to humidity not waiting time, and I always play it a little safe now if I am leaving it over night.
If your lam coat is still slightly tacky then you can just hot coat. If it’s completely cured, scuff it.
So give it a good scuff up and i should be good? I think i can handle that…pix by the weekend!!
Give it a scuff, but also rub it down with denatured alcohol.
Vinegar cleans up the resin and hardener excess nicely, clean water afterwards.
Then a good scruff and it bonds for sure.
