Hello all. As I am soon going to be ready to glass my board I had one question concerning UV protection. How can I protect my epoxy board from UV damage? I am not painting the surface as it is my first board and I dont have any polyester resin at my disposal, so are there any other ways? Thanks for the input.

The most common surfboard epoxies in use today in manufacturing are UV stable. There is also a potential problem with the foam being UV stable. To deal with this problem with polyurethane foam I had my epoxy supplier add a UV blocker to the resin so that the foam was protected. I used Resin Research epoxy, it is not adversely impacted by UV.
Hey Blakestah. Thanks for the reply. I’m using MAS flag epoxy and it says in the manual to protect the epoxy surface from sun exposure and that this can be done with varnish. I dont really want to try varnish on my board though. Does anyone know any differently. Do I really need to worry about UV protection?
No you don’t have to worry about uv protection…unless it’s your skin.
I’ve had Ressin Research turn brown on me a few times. Keep the board out of sunlight. Put it in a bag or sock and you’ll be ok.
If you don’t care about some brown or yellowing then just surf it. If your worrying about yellowing, then drop some color into the epoxy.
Polish the board with car polish
.
Thanks for the replies all.I’m not worried anymore. But I do have one last question direct to TomBlocke. If I was to polish my board with car polish do I only have to do it once and voila its protected for life?
Merci
One car polish treatment works well for at least a couple of years, it depends on how much exposure the board gets though.
