Epoxy wet spots.

Please tell me there is a fix for this. I did the laminating coat, everything went perfect. At the correct time I did the hot coat and I let it cure for 12 hours. I went to check it and it has some sticky spots and it dried lumpy. What I’m thinking is that I pumped some extra to finish the coat and pumped the wrong amount. What can I do? I looked through the archives and found reasons but no solutions. Thanks.

Yep sounds like you didn’t mix correctly. I n my opinion the pumps suck. I measure out my resin then add 45% hardener.

YOu can try to scrape the goo off witha razor to the point where it is hard then use 5,000 peices of sand paper and redo the board. IF the whole thing is soft you might be able to pull off the glass. if it just the hot coat you can also try temp cureing it. It might not work but ya never know.

Thanks Girvin. But when you say sand and redo the hole board do you mean sand the hot coat and laminating coat?

I agree. You’re pretty much screwed unless you can sand or scrape off EVERYTHING that is gooey, and re-glass or hotcoat as necessary. Epoxy is not as forgiving to errors as Polyester is as most of us have learned the hard way. I have tried to save “Soft” epoxy boards using various methods and all I ended up doing was wasting more resin. Scrape off what you can or like the previous post said, pull off the cloth if it is soft enough to do that. Measure your epoxy accurately and stir the holy crap out of it.

Yep… take off what you can mechanically… stay away from the solvents.

A putty knife, then a razor blade, then sandpaper. Re-hotcoat as normal.

Thanks everyone for your help, I was freaking out. Now I have a good idea on how to fix this problem. I think this forum is great, the surfing comunity helping each-other out. I’ll be on the lookout to see if I can return the favor.
