EPS Beads - How Small Can You Go?

Can you get the beads so small that to the naked eye it looks as though there is no beads at all in the foam? Is there any point in doing something like this for surfboards if it is possible?

I think I remember hearing that the bead size in styro cups, ''T'' size, is the smallest bead available, and that for some reason is not suitable for large size items.  ie; Blanks.    Ken, at Segway, can provide the definitive answer for you.

AFAIK Bill is right, and added tot this that the smaller the bead the denser the product, i.e. heavier. There a few tricks out there to avoid the “beady eye”… when using higher densities like 30 kg/m3 a proper fine sanding prior to glassing really does miracles for the end result, with lower densities its all about spackles and pigments.

slob job resin work is funky way …

This is a 30kg/m3 board with 1x6 oz bottom and 2 x 6 oz top and slob job laminate.

i am building all my wakesurf boards uin 3# eps foam , this foam comes virgin only , cannot regrind and reuse

T bead is the smallest, but I have not heard anyone blowing this stuff in the last couple years.

Some smaller than normal C bead foam is not hard to come by, looks very tight and finishes clean but the maker needs to know the correct way to fuse all of it or the beads become too brittle.

Mix bead types still work well for getting specific density and if made right will finish out as good as virgin c.

Anyone have any feedback on shaping T beads? I have never seen a T bead surfboard blank…
