Been talking to Cello – they currently produce just the 2 and 3 pound. 2.5 would be ideal as its still lite but does not need to be sealed.

Cheers!

Try the 2# before you sweat finding the 2.5…

I’ve built several boards from it, sandwiches & plain, and its pretty dang fine. No vents, no sealing except krylon h2o which was for appearance, not structure…I build ‘traditional’ style longboards and the 2# foam weight is fine with a couple layers of glass. The ‘feel’ is definitely there…

What do you mean exactly Benny? Are you just putting on a coat of white to make it look good, or do you mean your just putting on your colors? Both?

Peace

Don’t let the sealing scare you off. It is a simple process.

DAP Fast-n-Final Light Weight Spackle (get it at Lowes)

process… take a scoop of spackle and mix it with water until pretty thin (similar to whipping cream maybe). spread onto the blank with a squeegee, put on thin, let sit ~15 min and hit with sanding screen

bottom line is don’t let sealing the blank hold you back. b.t.w. you don’t need to seal a 2# blank. sealing will just give you a little better looking and little light. So in short not needed but easy and a little better if sealed.

Yep, just to lay a base for other colors, so they’d be even. It worked like a champ.

Benny, how much glass do you use on 2# eps to get that classic LB ‘feel’?

Triple 4 + a patch on the deck, double 4 on the bottom. Same as the more traditional shapes from Patagonia/Point Blanks. That’s where I ripped the glassing schedule…

I’d be interested in splitting a block with you surf4fins. I’d need a 9’ length of foam or better. Let me know when you are ready to order.

For anyone in Oz who’s interested and finds themselves shopping for 2lb EPS in Adelaide.

I sent you a PM. I think you shaped me a board years ago before I started up.

Anyone interested in splitting an 8’ block of 2#? I’m in Encinitas - surfhound@hotmail.com

When you seal and sand, can you see the foam outline below, or do you lay on enough that you cannot see the foam at all and all you see is a hard flat white surface?

I put mine on thick enough to hide the foam and then sanding screened it back so it just hid all the grain of the 1# EPS. I did color resin tint and have even color (blood red and canary yellow) and can’t see any sign of the grain. OH yeah I did go thin enough on the spackle where some of my reference pencil marks that I did not sand off complete show through the spackle and the resin tint.

From what I could tell Greg puts it on thinner than I did.

When I first did it I was not sure how much to put on so I went a little thick and sanded it back.

Thanks man you’ve been great help… did you do a colored inlay on the deck straight on the foam for the yellow or the red or whatever?

I’ll post a picture in the show me your 1# eps boards thread, but here is what I did…

single 6oz yellow deck inlay

double 6oz red bottom with cutlaps

double 6oz clear deck with freelaps

Still need to do the pinstripe to cover up the mismatch of the double cuts.

At Keith’s house Sunday…

Ok all you want O’Piece of EPS guys…bring some cash! You know who you are 'casue you posted in the the threads about EPS and StingRays post. Here’s the deal…

Tax included, I will will call pick up a #2 block of EPS for $390.00. But I need the cash first.

This is what we get,; 39"x49"x97"

the 8’ block (97") when you split it in half (49" dived by 2). Gives us 2 blocks at 24.5". Cut the 39" dim in 6.5" sections

gives us 12 blanks at 8’ x 24.5" x 6.5"

This is $32.50 for a 8’ blank. Let’s call it $4.10 a foot. 6’ blank = $24.60/10’ blank $41.00. If you want something over 8’ it gets tricky. Buy two pieces. Or hook up with someone wanting a six foot blank and buy there extra two feet. I want to shape a 8’ semi gun and a fish. So I’ll have an extra two feet available. You just glue it up like Benny does (it’s in the archives, HA!)

Where are we going to hotwire the bloack up? We can do it at my house in Laguna Niguel, or???

If this works out maybe next time we get a 16’ block (like $750). I will post this in the other two threads.
