Like many of you out there, I am pricing EPS blocks, but am time limited by my day job so getting quotes is slow, and I figure folks could compare notes here to find good prices.
To start it off, I was at home Depot today and was quoted as follows:
$165.59 4’x8’x12" 2# EPS from Insulfoam delivered to San Diego within 2 weeks (~6-8 blanks or $28-20 per blank)
$266.42 4’x8’x12" 3# EPS from Insulfoam delivered to San Diego within 2 weeks (~6-8 blanks or $44-33 per blank)
Higher densities cost more. Price per cu ft is a good way to compare. Several places I contacted provided quotes as “per cu ft.”
As of 11/22/05 the local Home Depot was able to get a 2’ X 3’ X 12’ block of 1 1/2 lb density for 325.00 including tax and shipping. That was substantially more per cu ft than quoted elsewhere but none of those places are near where I live so being able to pick it up locally was worth it for me.
Ken Ebert at Segway has EPS blanks ready to go and isn’t too far from where you live. Being able to pick up blanks ready to go with Greg Loehr designed rocker/profile is worth a lot if you have any space/time issues. He also has the perimeter stringered/high density Walker foam rail composite blanks.
I just ordered a 2’x1’x6’6" block of 2.4# from Pacific Allied (Hawaii). For some reason the price escapes me at the moment, but I’m thinking it was around $130. Not sure how much cheaper 2# would’ve been.
I am looking in this area for some foam as well. Im not sure if it wouldnt just be easier to try to pick up some blanks from Steve Forestal. I would possibly be interested in splitting a block so if you are interested let me know.
Hmm. Maybe my quote was for 1#? I asked the guy what densities they had and he told me 1, 1.5, and 2 and then I asked how much they run and he just said “162 and change.”
Ha!! You guys got it goooood on the mainland. Pacific Allied here in Hawaii has quoted me prices as high as $1100 for a 27in by 48in by 16ft block of 2.4lbs foam…same dimentions but 8ft long at 2lbs was in the mid $400 price range…they probably want my left arm too…
I ordered a billit from insulfoam a few months ago. 2’ by 2’ by 10’ long 1 1/2 LB. I had it dropped at my house for 165.00 50.00 of that was shipping. Gordon
If you know of any guys in the area that do plaster work, get in tight with them because they generally buy lots of foam in various dimensions. If you can get one of these guys to front for you they might be able to get block foam for much cheaper. My brother-in-law is a plastering contractor and he can get 2# foam for about $40 per block or less. But that’s here in Texas. I’m sure prices will be higher in Hawaii.
I would be interested in splitting a block of foam with you. What density were you going with? I do live here in San Diego. Have you already made a hotwire? Just let me know so we can order if we need to.
