EPS compatible polyester resin

A french distributor told me he now carries a brand new laminating polyester resin that can be used with EPS and XPS foam. On top of that the resin is UV cured and costs roughly the same price as regular polyester resin. As anyone tested or heard of that new resin ?

Sounds weird, but I guess it can be done technically if you replace the styrene in the polyester with something else that don’t dissolve EPS. It’s might be a good thing for the environment too if it reduces VOC. But epoxy still works just fine…

Håvard

Epoxy works fine and is stronger, that’s right… but :

  1. you need the right room temperature to use it
  2. it takes a lot more than 60 seconds to cure which means that my garage is a mess for several weeks (while with UV cured resin I can get the whole thing done in half a day)
  3. it may create skin problems (even though I put on proper cloth, mask and gloves I always end up getting some on my skin)
  4. it's 2 times more expensive

  1. Using Resin Research epoxy is pretty forgiving with temperatures

  2. 2hours for me to flip which is comparable to mekp and poly

  3. Greg L should chime in on this one but as i understand it RR epoxy is pretty safe.

  4. cost is almost the same

I understand your point my intend was not to discredit epoxy resin, but unfortunately, over here in France, we can’t find Resin Research Epoxy. The epoxy we find here is 2 to 3 times more expensive than good quality polyester and is known to be quite harmfull…
