EPS foam question

Had a quick question regarding EPS foam blocks. I just spoke with a local foam dealer and ordered a block for creative pleasure and asked if I wanted the EPS in Hard Shot? Never quite got an answer to what this was got derailed in the conversation. I ordered 2 lb B bead foam and apparently Hard Shot!  Anyone care to elaborate for me. Pease excuse my ignorance if this is common sense. again thanks for the info ladies and gents!

Never hear of it.  But after my first 10'x2'x2' 2# block in 2005 I've been using Home Depot 1# EPS (28 boards and counting).

Hope you get an answer I'd like to hear it.

Huh...I looked for an hour last night...I've heard that term or something similar maybe...since many of the manufacturers make 1 lb, 1.5lb, 2lb...maybe he's referring to the "Hard Shot" being their High Density.  Seems they add twice the amount of materials to make the same size block under pressure...not for sure but stumped me so I tried to figure it out too....hopefully someone knows for sure.

Yeah I tried looking on the net too couldn’t find a thing! I’ll just ask the foam company on Wednesday when I pick up the block!  Woody I just scored a huge piece of cedar thats 12 feet long and one that’s 16 feet for stringers! Each is 3.5 x 7.5 inches just need to get it milled. I did my first board with a blank that had a cedar stringer and it just looks nice! My wife’s grandfather had it in his shop since the 70’s he was gonna make a waterbed frame with it! He recently passed and they were gonna toss it! Scoreific day!

Heck yeah!

Man I can't find cedar or redwood here thats worth a crap. Seems like all they use cedar around here for is rough cut fence boards, the lowest grade possible. Redwood...forget it! I did find a local guy who gets sheets of exotic woods in veneer sheets. I think some vac bagging is gonna be my next evolution in board building!

Good Luck!

I got a buddy thats pushing me to start vac bagging so I can make him a Carbon SUP. I keep telling him I've only shaped a hand full of boards! I guess it woud be nice to be able to do but I'm running out of space fast! I thought this was just a lazy hobbie now I'm making my own banks and stringers, Ive got young children to nurture and raise WTF!!!

‘hard shot’ is good stuff - should shape really well. It refers to the type of bead they use to make the foam.

Is it insulfoam?

I’m pretty sure that it is Grasshopper. The company I ordered from does mainly construction insulation but from what they told me I’m not the only one that comes knocking for blocks to make surfboards. Lucky pick off the yellow pages!

And where are my manners thanks for the info Grasshopper!
