eps/pu board thinkness

Just wondering? ive heard that you ride eps alot thiner then a pu blank but how much thiner is there a rule of thumb to go by or just wing it?

Thanks

given recent events, i moved the EPS/epoxy board up a few notches on my list of “boards to be made”. it’s a more high performance longboard at 9’0". i’m making it 2-5/8" thick.

could not find the guideline but here is the reasoning/math behind why thinner: http://www.swaylocks.com/forum/gforum.cgi?post=235173#235173

If you go with eps composite construction and the same thickness you will have a much stiffer board. If you push the envelope of thickness on PU/PE boards then you have some flex during the ride, and eps/epoxy composite boards will be noticeably stiffer and you probably will not like it.

However, eps+stringer+glass (epoxy) - non-composite - is not so much stiffer than Pu/Pe at the same thickness. It depends on a lot of factors, but about 1/8" thinner should work out OK.
