Just Curious to see if any of you guys had problems with delamination on spackled eps boards. I have done the Resin Research with microballoons as well as the dap spackle method. Of course the Dap spackle is easy to sand and the airbrush comes out great but what about the bond issue. Does the epoxy fuse with the spackle and attach itself to the EPS? If you dont spackle, how do your airbrushes come out on the microballoon epoxy sealed eps? Thanks for the help Mike
I’ve done lots of both. I’ve never had problems with either. Air brush and cosmetics look better with spackle. I’ve only seen a problem with spackle one time and the guy who did it caked it on. It’s supposed to be a very thin coat, sanded down for laminating.
I’ve used Greg’s products, and feel they’re the best on the market.
I’ve also done a peel test that showed a slightly better bond with microballoons than spackle. However, the difference may well be negligeble, when all is said and done. I’ve been riding a couple spackled boards for several years now with not a hint of delam on any of them.
I use a pigmented micro/epoxy slurry, do two thin coats, sand smooth, and do resin tints. Turns out great. You see more weave than blank texture. The guy I work with is a painter by trade, and only does spackle. He does two coats, sands smooth, has a paint sprayer, but likes to ues a mini roller. Comes out fantastic. Don’t even need pin lines.
