If i shape with EPS or XPS then put wall spakle on it can i use traditional resin on it?
I have used epoxy twice, but the stuff is soooo bloody expensive.
Cheers,
Paul

No.
But,I’ve been told that if you seal it with a couple of coats of epoxy and sand it you can. But make sure there is no bare foam exposed cause it will melt the EPS big time. For all the hassle and grief, I’d stick to all epoxy.

Thanks mate. the only epoxy i can get here is west systems, and its over $100 for a gallon… RIDICULOUS!

there was a thread a while back that had a link to a surfer mag forum.
apperently, this guy was sealing eps blanks with house paint and then using
polyester resin. he was claiming like a $35 (U.S.) surfboard.
gday paul
its only expensive if you waste it
i could do a double 4 oz shorty with around 600 grams easy. thats in total
i think that converts to around 1.2 us pints
but maybe if your kinda wasteful, 1 litre would be shit loads(2pints)
i pay about 17$ nz per liter
so it onlyy costs me around 13$nz dollars per board
i gallon us is close to four litres in metric
u could easily do three or four double 4 oz all over shortboards with that
thats about 33$ us per board
The problem is he is probally using a low density EPS, therefore needing way more then a double 4oz glass job.
Calgary, check out this site man www.clarkcraft.com . Its a ways away from where you are but way cheaper epoxy resin. Ive made 4 boards from it and have no complaints. It cures clear, but i always seem to have a yellowing effect with the spackle i use (trying to fix that) so you can always add colour work. Hope this helps.
