Europe

Hey guys, I know that there are already some threads about supply in Europe, but they date back appr. 2-5 years, which is a rather long period in these terms. So what I found are the “usual suspects”, ie. atuacore, homeblown, seabase, and viral. I have 2 issues with those suppliers: 1. I am located in Germany, so having blanks ships is rather pricey. 2. None of the above offer green or recycled blanks. I am fully aware that in order to recycle something, it has to be produced at some point, I just wanna try not to that point though. I know that this is a long shot, but maybe there are some Germans on here, that could point me in a direction? I could ask some of the few German shapers, but I can imagine that they’d be rather tight-lipped when it comes to the question, where they get their blanks. I found a couple suppliers for glassing equipment, but nothing for blanks so far. Importing from the US is out of the question, as we have crazy import taxes here in Germany. Plus having a couple blanks shipped several thousand KM’s renders the whole idea of a greener blank somehow obsolete.

I would also like to thank those who already answered in my built-thread, I am not allowed to answer yet. So thanks @everysurfer, @McDing, and @bb30

Oh and we don’t need to keep this thread for suppliers, you are more than welcome to post any questions you might have about Europe on here. As I am not (yet, hopefully…) of any help when it comes to shaping, maybe I can contribute in any other way.

You must be able to purchase 1.5 or 2b eps in sheet or block form locally then hotwire blanks from that. It is cheap and no way near as complicated as some will make out.

There you go sidia.  You now have 15 points and can respond to comments in your own threads.

Basically, this new 15-point rule prevents newcomers from posting on threads until they have started 15 threads of their own.  Does this not encourage new members to start unnecessary threads just so they can participate and ask questions in threads of related interest.

This 15-point rule seems a bit like “Locals Only…”

I dont know if this helps, because you are looking for PU, i guess…

I talked to BACHL, a main supplier for Eps, and they provide blocks up to 4 m x 0.6m x 1m. The 2 m version is standard.

It can be ordered at most of the hardware stores that purchase their product.

For the next project i will just glue up insulation foam from the recycling point…

Thanks for the info, I am actually gonna use EPS, so we’re on the right track here. I’ll have a look at my hardware store next week. Do you know how much such blocks go for approximately?

i paid 100€ plus vat for the 2m block x 0.6 x 1m, its good for up to 8 blanks- depends on your rocker.
