I am looking for shapers in Europe who specialise in longboards. The French shaper Ivan Amelineu was recommended to me by a friend, but I have not been successful in finding any contact info yet. Has anyone heard of him and his work before? Can you recommend any other French, Spanish or Portuguese shapers for a singlefin pintail longboard? I have nothing against UK shapers or their craftsmanship, but the pound is currently simply too expensive compared to the euro.
You can speak with Edu Echeverria from ZIPS, he’s based near Donosti. I’ve seen and surfer very nice longboard shaped by him. Also there are few more as:
I’d recommend you Jeffrey Swartwood (near Bordeaux), he is specialized in longboards. He’s a californian who moved to france therefore he speaks both french and english. His website : http://surfboards.chez.tiscali.fr/
If you want a modern HP tri-fin “9 foot shortboard” go for www.lufi.online.pt. They have propably the strongest ASP-team in Europe with world no. 2 Alex Salazar and S.African big wave hero Jason Ribbink in the team. Lots of “pro models” to choose from.
Does anyone know who shapes epoxy longboards in Europe?
In France, for a high performance longboard and high quality craftmanship you can also try Slide surfboards (www.slidesurfboards.com)
You also have G. Rainfray (aka balsa), who occasionaly posts on Swaylocks and is specialized in longboard guns.
These are small shapers who don’t have big advertising campaign or a large team, but they focus on quality and usually spend several hours talking with their customers in order to come up with a truly custom built board.
Best longboards i’ve seen and ride by far. It’s hard to get the board on date if you don’t have his word to do it… so talk about this, haha. An honest and great guy to deal with.
I am looking for shapers in Europe who specialise in longboards. The French shaper Ivan Amelineu…
Ivan Amelineau shapes 6AM boards and in now in Bretagne. In that area, Juanito works fine also. Further south, close to Bordeaux, Depeyris in Lacanau or Swartwood are fine. Furter south again plenty of nice people such as Minvielle, SlideSurfboards (Gerard Duval), Jeremy Smith (Uhaina surfboards) or even Balsa can do something for you.
Merci, Gracias and Obrigado! Great to see some examples of the many talented shapers on this side of the Atlantic. I have just begun to wade through all the web sites and info, interesting variations in both design and price.
Before I posted this thread i had already found the shaperoom.net site, but my limited french wasn’t of much help (same goes for spanish, hehe). But this is a great way to pick up some new language skills, hopefully the shaper I decide on working with’s english is better then my spanish or french.
