So I just came across this term, and googled it. This is from the British DK surfboard website:
"The evo surfboard is a hybrid cross between a mini-mal and a performance shortboard.
"The theory behind the evolution is that it combines the maneuverability of a shortboard with the stability and easy paddling of a mini-mal into one surfboard. The slight vee throughout the bottom deck allows for good perfomance and easy turning.
"The evo really works well for heavy surfers and mini-mal riders that want to get more performance out of their surfboard."
So, anyone out there riding these, have pics, comments, or ride reviews? Thanks!
Thanks for responding - yeah, that wording struck me as weird too. I kinda thought that particular line was a typo - I took it to mean "slight V throughout the bottom". I figure a lot of times the copy on a website is written or edited by other than the shaper.
Don't know anything about DK Surfboards UK, but I believe the "evo" shape is not limited to one brand. Don't know too much about it otherwise, hoping others out there could enlighten me! http://www.dksurfboards.co.uk/dk-surfboards-evo-model.php
It's an Egg.....a trimmed down version but still an egg.....Guys like Huck and Ray dream about surfing boards like this......with no one out....perfect chest high peelers.........
I’ve got a board from the '80’s with Vee running the length of it. It’s a short board, but your free to borrow it if you want to get the feel of what it does.
The Vee sits the board lower and more stable in the water. It has a smooth carve, rolls on the rail easy, but lacks the spring that a concave, or even a flat bottom has. Works better in bigger surf than you would think for its size, but less lively in smaller surf.
