Cleigh, I can shoot video and edit it. Just need to make sure I have the date and location set. Is that nailed down? I know Mike Nii was trying to get a place at Officer’s Beach in Sept. Only problem is I may have to go to California in Sept. around 18-22.
When I told Ralph about you guys, he said that you guys were his brother’s age.
In regards to the reunion what is the date in September? And who is going to organize all the stuff and invite list so no one is overlooked, there are so many generations that have gone through. One thing for that I would like to see is all the memerabilia from then that everone has. I read that Mel Behasa has all kine stuff. The only thing I got is an old Ewa Beach Surf Club patch and some video that Mikey Vogelgesang gave me - Mrs. Husic took the video’s. Sounds great to have a get together for all the EB guys, been a long time.

Shark Country, my suggestion was for Sep 22, 2012 but that was only a suggestion. Sep 8, 15, and 29 is still an option. Also needing to be done is to get some volunteers for a committee. Included in this committee would be 1. The notification person(s) .(secures contact numbers and notifies them of the event specifics). Food and beverage person. I'm thinking Pot Luck would be the best way to go(everybody just bring something to eat and drink Gotta keep track though. No good if everybody bring rice. Perhaps an entertainment person if applicable. I will take care of the Gazebo at Officers Beach aka, White Plains Beach Barbers Point. Not sure of the cost right now, will check in the morning whern I go surf. Anyway, I'm glad this website is up again. I didn't hear from anybody for a while. Cleigh Eaton, give me a call if you like at 392-7072. Have a great day everyone, looking forward to this event. Aloha Mike Nii
Mike,
Mahalo’s for the reply. Good to know the date then we can put it on my calendar, I don’t want to miss it. Count in Frank Aragon and I, we can help however. I think all of us gotta follow through and invite the guys that we have a connection to. I hope that the whole gang will be into it to come. Keep in touch…
Butch P.
Heres a suggestion. We are of diffrent age groups so perhaps volunteers from each would be good to coordinate. Mike Nii already outlined what each coordinator needs to do. having alternates is good. Mike N. i’ll try and call you after this weekend cause i have a bunch of stuff going on that i am helping to plan.
Cleigh
Mike if you can make the reservation for any weekend except the 22nd of September. I will be there and shoot video.
Cleigh, If you like, I could also do some stuff down at EBR lots area showing where everyone lived/still lives. If Joey is still at Shark Country I can shoot some stuff down there.
Might take a while, but this could be a real nice documentary.
How about putting together a design for a T-shirt and I'll get them printed here (Indonesia) and bring over with me? Tough for me to do pot-luck, cuz I'm not in the neighborhood, but this I can do. Some graphics and suggested sizes would be all I need. ??
MB
Mike Bell, where the heck are you? I didn't get to see you last time you were here. I take it you will be attending this get together? Nii
Hey Mike,
I've been in Indonesia for a long time now. Living on the island of Bali. Sorry I missed you last trip when we brought my brother Dan over and paddled him out at flag poles. It was a good reunion of some of the gang. Randy was honored at the gathering as well; Danny and Randy were class mates and good friends and a lot of their mutual friends did show up. But I hope we'll get a chance to meet up at this reunion! I'm looking for graphics for a T-shirt. Maybe start putting some designs together for a vote? Gotta be at least a few creative people out in this colorful group of Ewa Beachers!
Aloha!
Ok, so far looks like 15 Sep is the target date. I hope this is compatible with all concerned. I'll check with Beach Cottages at Barbs in the morning after surf. Get nice south swell coming in for the next couple of days. Nii
aloha mike, how bout the old Ewa Beach Surf Club logo with 2012 reunion… i was never in EBSC so i’m not exactly sure what it looks like… i do remenber it was the metal structure that was on the outer reef to let ship know the navigational hazard…we should get Mel Behasa to design something, he’s the artist dude…another good garphic artist is Gilly Aunguay…
aloha ike
Heres something you artist can think about. i like Ikes idea maybe added with a Hawaiian depiction of Kaahupahau the benevolent aumakua shark of Puuloa (Real name of EB) somewhere side or back let you artist decide.Make it “Tatau” Hawaiian style tatoo, as a border or something.
Cleigh
Yeah the metal structure we called da marker. It was used to let ships know where the reef was. It got buried one year when the outside reef was pumping. Was part of the original “logo”. Everyone who wasn’t from EB always asked what it was. It kind of defined us cause only EBSC guys knew what it was. I want people to know that I believe this reunion is for all of us who surfed and lived in EB and not only EBSC members or former members. Its about getting together and not isolating people but including them.

On the way in to Ewa Beach I remember Honouliuli. Then passing the Ewa Hospital with the flume behind it. Then crossing the railroad tracks from the sugar mill. Then the long stretch of tall cane fields. Then the Keawi trees by where Leeward Estates is now. Then the cows on the road just before Tanaka Store and the cow barrier rails rumbaling just before the intersection by Papipi Road. The lake in front of Tanaka Store and Beach Corner on a rainy day. Then turning into Ewa Beach Road and passing Silva’s Store and Jimmy Ha’s Store and seeing the marker buoy greeting you and seeing the condition of the surf greeting you home through the pine trees of Empty Lot. And feeling the pine needles and pine cones under your feet, made you know you were home and in the presence of your Ohana. Paddling out in the surf and looking inland and seeing Pantastico’s pier and Cliegh’s house and the raft by Empty Lot and the pine trees and surfing around the telephone poles in the water and getting the tar on your board and walking through the carpet of limu made your heart warm. And looking out to sea you saw the marker buoy. It was then that you really knew where you were. Blessed is our past and blessed be our future. To all I have shared these things with…Aloha…Keiki O Ka Aina I Ka Pono…Ewa Beach Ea
P.S. ya iss mee jus tinking back…Aloha my Braddas
Hey Mike. That sounds like a good plan for T-shirt design. I was never in EBSC, but a lot of others were and can maybe dig up something to work off of? I'll send a note out to Mel Bahasa in Kona now.
Well said Da Buoy! I remember all that too especially on my side at Shark Country. The Salondaka's, Philips, Kang, Vogelgesang, Bisol, Bell, Mahalovich, Keahi, Bacalso, Kauiho, Hamilton, Chabrow, Trible, Wenke, Plamerton. I know theres a lot more, just gotta try and remember. Summer time had big days at SC especially when the outside reef would break. A couple minutes later and that over head peak would roll in, drop down turn grab the rail and the race is on. Be sure to kick out before the wall closes at Hau Bush or you will get a pounding paddling back out plus no mo leash those days, we got to be good swimmers. I think about those days all the time. Don't see many good days like that anymore, once in a while though. Same with the winter time Sea Wall right break. Holly shit, the big west wrap would send 4-6 foot and sometimes bigger, right barrels peeling almost to John Hamiltons house. Last winter not so good though. Patience, it will come again. I usually see Ralph Plameira, Joey Gainer, John Mitsuyasu, the O'reily brothers (I think that's how you spell it) I'm not sure when they showed up in Ewa Beach but there a cool family and good surfers. Poof! back to the present. I'm still working the Gazebo issue. Went to inquire yesterday but was informed that I have to wait until May to apply. Need to be no earlier than 4 months out. September 15 looks like the target date so far. I will keep all informed. I have a feeling that the waves will be nice that day too. Just a feeling though. If you no surf anymore no problem, jump in the water. If you still ripping awesome, bring your board. If you no mo board no worry, I have a couple, long boards that is! That is all for now. Remember, spread the word.......Aloha, Mike
Howzit Gang. Regarding T-shirts for September: Does anyone have any images of the marker from the Ewa Beach SC days? or any other sketches that can be considered for a T-shirt design? I sent a note to Mel in Kona, but nothing back from him yet.

Howzit Cleigh. I just did look up Ka'ahupahau on internet. Great story of Ewa Beach area. Here's a link if anyone wants to check it out. http://apdl.kcc.hawaii.edu/oahu/stories/ewa/kaahupahau.htm
It's a super good idea for the shirt, but I couldn't find any images. Still looking. But if anyone has, please pass on.
Thx! Mike B
