excel fins

what are the rubber things on the deck above the boxes on excel fins for

does it matter if i just ripped them off

do they have a website, are they still around, i can’t find them anywhere

does anyone here use them

Excel fin systems changed their name to Red-X a number of years ago http://www.redxfins.com/ … probably one of the most solid designs ever built, fore-aft adjustable.

Pretty sure the padded oval deck plug covers was to protect feet/toes from the potentially sharp edges of the inner deckside opening. I used Excel/Red-X for a bunch of years and never used the pads. Maybe Tom@daum will see this post & elaborate and correct me if I’m wrong

doesn’t matter if you ripped them off, most I’ve seen have never even put them on. They are mostly cosmetic to cover up the hole and possibly to prevent some water seepage if the install isn’t tight. surf, enjoy, great fin system I use it on most of my boards, never had a problem without the rubber things.

cheers

Everything said above is correct. The soft TPE covers are there to protect your toes and keep the impact from stomping on the deck around the neck of the box to a minimum.
