Yeah …Thanks Drewtang !!

after a few months on my first 2, i’ve just sold off most of my quiver and rebuilding it in cork. it’s nice not needing wax and having a really light but strong board that doesn’t chatter through chop light a popout.

Got to love cork!! Good for putting funny fabrics under it too.

bit late i allready have given drew the credit    charlie as well

i was not aware there was a race on?

if so      your a bit late to the party

Hi all,

  1. Does cork grab the inside of your thighs and give you a rash like softtop material does?

  2. Would it be reasonable/possible to replace the softtop on an old board with cork?

Cheers

T.

i get no rash at all using cork. and been in boardies for months. ive seen older boards have cork put on. looked fantastic!

i love cork…its the biggest and most valid design/construction breakthu in along time imo!

Some of the earliest surfboards ever used in Portugal were made with cork. This would have been in the 50s, or possibly earlier.

Wakeskim board with 2mm Xposed cork

lakewakes, I may be misunderstanding you.  you say top coat 1/4 over the cork but won’t that make the cork slick?  and when you say 4e/cork/4e, that is in addition to the layer of cork on the deck for traction?  If you do a good job with the edges, do you really need a pinline?

thx

I try to cut cork as straight as I can, so pinline or painted rail will make lines straighter. I would spray my UV poly spray to seal board , so I tape up to 1/4" over the edge of the cork. Pins are just to add color to board and match fin box color. The 4/cork/4 meaning you can sandwich the cork instead of wood veneer.
